Who is Drake?

San Francisco, CA

Drake currently lives in a shelter-in-place hotel in his hometown of San Francisco. He was working as a nurse—giving loving care to seniors and people in hospice—when he developed a severe nerve disorder and could no longer walk. He lost his job and was unable to afford rent which led to him becoming unhoused. Drake was living in his car for several years until it was towed.

Miracle Money Goals 2021

1. Find permanent housing with an elevator in a safe neighborhood

2. Purchase an electric wheelchair

More about Drake

Drake is absolutely thrilled to be chosen as a Miracle Money recipient and can't quite believe it. Each day is a struggle for him both physically and mentally. Because of his nerve damage, navigating sidewalks and buses is exhausting and a huge challenge. He propels his wheelchair with his legs. He’s very vulnerable and has been robbed several times.

Drake and his Miracle Friends buddy, Sukey, talk several times each week. They share experiences, raise each other’s spirits, and tackle practical problems. They’ve genuinely become good friends.

Drake’s Miracle Money Experience

Since becoming disabled from a nerve disorder, Drake has struggled to get to medical appointments and do errands in his manual wheelchair. He's imagined the transformative difference an electric wheelchair would make in his life, but the cost made it just a dream.

Due to his other physical disabilities (such as not having many teeth), Drake struggles to eat much of the food available at shelters, and being able to use Miracle Money to purchase proper food helps a lot.

Now, selected for the Miracle Money Program, he realizes his dream can come true!

He feels tremendous gratitude and plans to save every month so he can change his life.

Why Miracle Money?

Build relationships.

Our Miracle Friends program meets people where they are at, treats people not as problems to be solved but as people to be loved. We find that good communication and accountability follow.

Give funds.

We have raised over $45,000 through peer-to-peer fundraising to give 15 recipients $500/month for six months. Funds are used for housing, car repairs and transportation, bills, clothing, and more.

Repeat.

Seeing how Miracle Money changes lives, donors are encouraged to give and see the joy of knowing that every dollar donated goes to an unhoused neighbor in need. They follow updates along the way.

Help make a difference.

Donate to Miracle Money and help change a life like Drake’s.
